To thoroughly implement the “Measures for the Management of Academicians of the Hong Kong Academy of Technology”, further strengthen the construction of high-caliber talent teams, and select strategic scientists, technical experts, and academic leaders who have made outstanding contributions in fields such as scientific and technological innovation, engineering practice, and industrial development, the nomination process for the 2027 Academician selection is hereby officially launched. The relevant matters are notified as follows:

I. Nomination Method

This selection follows the principles of “fairness, impartiality, openness, and merit-based selection” and adopts a division-based nomination system. Each academician and each division may nominate 1–2 candidates. The Academician Review Committee will organize expert review and elect the best candidates on a merit basis.

II. Candidate Qualifications

According to the relevant provisions of the “Measures for the Management of Academicians of the Hong Kong Academy of Technology”, candidates must meet all of the following basic conditions:

A. Basic Identity and Qualifications

  1. Support the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, with good professional ethics and research integrity;
  2. Normally hold a doctoral degree, or have scientific and technological innovation capability and practical experience equivalent to the level of doctoral research;
  3. In principle, hold a senior professional title, or possess academic standing or engineering and technological achievements at an equivalent level in the international scientific and technological community.

B. Academic and Technical Achievements

Candidates should have sustained original achievements in their research fields and demonstrate one or more of the following outstanding accomplishments:

  1. Have published high-level academic papers in their discipline, with significant impact at home and abroad;
  2. Have led major national/international research programs or major engineering projects and achieved significant results;
  3. Have received important national or international scientific and technological awards or honorary titles;
  4. Have made remarkable contributions to the research and development of key core technologies, the formulation of technical standards, the tackling of key problems in major equipment, and the transformation of research achievements;
  5. Hold important positions in academic organizations, or serve as editorial board members or editors-in-chief of international journals, with extensive academic influence.

C. Social Responsibility and Influence

  1. Possess strong organizational and coordination abilities and be capable of promoting the integration of scientific and technological resources and team building;
  2. Have a positive influence in talent cultivation, scientific and technological services, academic exchanges, and science popularization;
  3. Have no record of academic misconduct, violation of rules or discipline, or other adverse behaviors.

III. Requirements for Nomination Materials

Each division shall submit the following application materials to the Academician Selection Office by May 30, 2027:

  1. The Nomination Form for Academician Candidates of the Hong Kong Academy of Technology;
  2. A detailed curriculum vitae of the candidate and a summary of their major academic and technical achievements (within 3,000 characters);
  3. Representative achievement materials from the past five years (full texts of papers, project reports, award certificates, patent specifications, etc.);
  4. At least two letters of recommendation (signed by fellow academicians or renowned experts);
  5. A research integrity commitment letter signed by the candidate.

All materials should be submitted in two paper copies and one electronic copy (PDF format) so as to facilitate archiving and review.

IV. Selection Process

The academician selection process consists of the following stages:

  1. Nomination and recommendation stage: academicians and divisions collectively submit candidate materials;
  2. Form review stage: the Academician Selection Office verifies candidates’ qualifications and the formal compliance of the materials;
  3. Expert review stage: the Review Committee organizes expert evaluation and interviews (if necessary);
  4. Deliberation and decision stage: the list is submitted to the Academy Executive Meeting for review and approval, and the final selected candidates are announced.

All academicians and divisions are requested to attach high importance to this academician nomination work, effectively carry out talent recommendation and material review, and ensure the quality of nominations.
