A leading figure in translation education and foreign language education in China, he is one of the initiators and founders of the undergraduate translation major and the professional translation degree.

He holds honorary Doctor of Letters from Coventry University, the University of Westminster, and the University of Central Lancashire in the United Kingdom. He is a leading talent under the National Ten Thousand Talents Program (Philosophy and Social Sciences) of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee; a selected member of the Publicity Department’s “Cultural Masters and Four Batches Talents” Project; a recipient of the Ministry of Education’s Program for New Century Excellent Talents; a national-level candidate of the New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project; a National Outstanding Teacher; a famous teacher of higher education in Guangdong Province; and an expert entitled to the Special Government Allowance of the State Council.

He currently serves as Board Member and President of the Macau Institute of Creative Innovation, Chief President of Nanbo Education Group, Honorary President of Xi’an Fanyi University, Member of the Expert Committee of the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education in Professional Translation Degrees, Member of the English Expert Committee of the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI), Head of the Teaching Collaboration Group for the Undergraduate Translation Major in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education, Honorary President of the Guangdong Translators Association, Vice President of the Guangdong Association of Higher Education, and Vice President of the Guangdong Western Returned Scholars Association (Guangdong Overseas-Returned Scholars Association), among other positions. He previously served as President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Co-President of Kingold Group, and President of Kingold College.

He has also concurrently held posts including Vice Chairman of the Teaching Steering Committee for Foreign Language and Literature Majors of the Ministry of Education, Chairman of its English Majors Teaching Steering Sub-Committee, Executive Vice President of the Translators Association of China and Chairman of its Interpretation Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education in Professional Translation Degrees, and Member of the Expert Committee on Discipline Development and Program Setup of the Ministry of Education, among others.
